Learning Natural Family Planning

There are two main ways of learning NFP with CCL:

  • You can join a course led by one of our Teaching Couples, or

  • You can study NFP at home with the aid of our Home Study Guide

CCL Courses

CCL Teaching Couples teach courses of four two-hour sessions, usually teaching a group of couples at once. Formal teaching notes and slides ensure that full information about NFP is provided consistently in every CCL course. Each Teaching Couple provides regular courses in their own area, and will also teach elsewhere if there is sufficient demand.

The four sessions of the course are usually spaced at about monthly intervals, to allow couples time to experience the fertility signs about which they are learning. The areas covered are:

  • Session 1: General background to NFP; why couples use NFP; the fertility cycle; the basic signs of fertility; using the signs to identify post-ovulation infertility. At the end of this session, the couple already know how to use NFP at a basic level.
  • Session 2: Scientific background to NFP in more detail; history of NFP; using the signs of fertility to identify pre-ovulation infertility.
  • Session 3: Chart interpretation 1 (practical); more advanced rules for using the signs of fertility; introduction to breastfeeding and natural child spacing.
  • Session 4: Chart interpretation 2 (practical); charts with unusual fertility patterns; using NFP at times of changing fertility.
